We have a dog named lardy, we named it like that because it was a small ugly lump of fur that looked like a lump of lard. If you Wanna come along and see some weird ideas come to my website at http://www.weirdwarp.com
Chris, March 2009

but they love Lardy anyway:)

I was looking for an urn to honor and keep my beloved dog Trixie and the style and appearance of yours is beautiful. The picture of the river is so fitting and touching that I may just have that as the front for now.  Thank you for allowing me to place a special member of our family in such a heartfelt urn.

I have a golden dog name Zeus. He is 1/2 pitbull & 1/2 chow. well, he's...  I guess he's paranoid. And he's getting worse. sketchy,j umpy, freaks out, won't ever leave my side ( goes to the bathroom with me, fallows me every where) When I go to work I leave him with a friend, friend says Zeus wont eat, drink play, go to the bathroom (I swear he'll hold it all day & night if its not w/ me) he cries all day long. ??

Hi;
I like your web site, it's cute!  Mary Beth and I are owned by Pepper' a mixed breed we rescued after being abandoned in the desert-- we found her being chased up our street by some little boys with R?C cards, MB shoo'ed them off and Pepper waltzed into our garage, MB offered water and food, and, well, that was a year and a half ago.  She inspired us to start Pepper's Pet Pantry, we'd love for you to stop by and visit us at http://www.pepperspetpantry.com .

Love your site and the fact that you are doing what you like (as a family).  I too lost 2 dogs within 6 months of each other - KoKo my favourite (but I didn't tell the others) was old and it was her time to go to the Rainbow however my darling Shar Pei Layla was only 3 when she contracted Shar Pei fever and died suddenly.  Needless to say I was devestated but have now adopted two little girls - one a black pug and the other a Shih Tzu both are now 7 months old and great company for each other.  I look forward to coming back to your site to see what new and wonderful things you have created.

Great website and beautiful dogs.  I liked the dogs can talk page.  We would make such a big fuss over our dog about how pretty he was whenever he got a haircut.  He is a poodle, but he behaves like an outdoor dog.  He plays ball with the boys and so forth.  So, when he would get his haircut like a poodle, it did not suit him, but we would make such a big deal because normally he looked like a play dog and not a poodle.  I swear he was saying, "Cut that out...I am not a pretty dog...take this bandana off of me and let's play some ball!"  Still to this day, when he gets a haircut, he hides as if he is embarrassed.  He is so funny!  SO, I enjoyed that part of your website...sorry that I wrote so much.

my dog "gilmore" a terrier went with us on a camping trip.. my dad left him in his truck while he was getting the camp site ready and then frustrated gilmore started honking the horn, and somehow managed to flip the headlights on and off begging to get let out of the cab of the truck to join us. it was so funny! even better, after we let him out he ran off into the woods returning about 1o minutes later dragging a box turtle he had found in the woods! gimore is such a smart dog!

My name is Sharon O'Hara, and I am the Director of a Horse Rescue near Jacksonville, Florida.  I had my Rotty named Gator for 3 years, when he had a siezure and did not make it out of it.  This dog was almost human!  I had tought him sign language, and he was great around the horses and underprivelge children I work with.  So now after waiting 2 years, I have decieded to get another one.  Even though Gator will NEVER be able to be replaced.  I have 20 acres of land, a pond, and my home is set 1250 ft off the road.

The City of Edmonton should have a a large No Dogs Allowed sign, on their websites, and signs coming into the city.
I have the most adorable Black Lab, Bloodhoud, pitbull, cross breed. A quiet well behaved well trained female dog, do you think I can find an apartment here! YEAH RIGHT!
I just wanted to mention on this site if you are planning to move to edmonton be prepared to pay a non refundable deposit of 150$ or more, or find out the hard way that small loud anoying dogs vs medium sized quiet smart breeds are favoured by the rental industry here! So long story short I am taking my skills, money, and wondeful dog Lucky back to Ottawa Ontario, where I will be designing my website '10 Good reasons not to move out west!'

One year ago, my husband and I adopted what we're pretty sure is a Doberman/Husky mix, now named Grace.  I've been volunteering at that same animal shelter for the past 5 months and I urge everyone: before going out and buying a dog (or cat), PLEASE, PLEASE check your local shelters and animal rescue agencies first!  There are so many great animals who, through no real fault of their own (i.e. human ignorance), need loving and patient homes.  Our Grace appears to have been starved and dumped out on a country road at the age of 6 months (possibly because of her Husky roots, which cause her to whine sometimes and get into occasional mischief).  She can be stubborn at times, but is incredibly loving towards her "pack" and I couldn't imagine my life without her.  Everyone should be aware that some of those animals will need a little extra training (I have, unfortunately, seen a few dogs returned to the shelter because some adopters think everything will be perfect after a few days).  Before even being put up for adoption, all the dogs are observed for behavior issues and many shelters can recommend a type of dog for you and your family.  PLEASE GIVE THOSE SHELTER ANIMALS OUT THERE A SECOND CHANCE!!  They will thank you for it.

Hi

My name is Sue Farey and I tailor make coats for dogs, I try to suit each breeds idiosyncrasies and unique qualities. I make waterproof coats and indoor coats, snugs with polar necklines and many other styles.  These range from $20.00A  to $70.00A.  My coats are made from excellent quality materials and well finished.  The waterproof materials I use are either a lightweight waterproof nylon that doesn't restrict the dogs movement at all or a lightweight oilskin. The coats are lined with best quality sherpa, polar fleece, fleecy or quilted cotton materials. Some coats have collars some have roll neck tops. All my coats are fitted around the dogs haunches and do not flap or gape.  Keeping the dogs warmer and drier.

If you would like to see some of them you can email me and I will send you some pictures.  I live in Australia and mail order anywhere.

Thankyou for your time.

Found web sight after wife's dog died. She had a chow that started getting sick-stopped eating, couldn't keep water down(and she started drinking LOTS of water)within 2 days she quietly laid down outside and died. We thought maybe age, but our neighbor's dog hopped our fence and I had a hard time seperating them with my son's squirt gun. We thought at first maybe a miscarriage. We're still not sure.

Subject: Poetry, Dogs

Description: Martin Elster’s collection of poetry will delight dog-lovers everywhere. Many of the poems are wonderfully whimsical limericks, but there are also a few melancholy poems, such as “Adopt Me Please,” which remind us that there are dogs whose water bowls really are half empty. He writes about a curious assortment of characters—a Yorkie from New York-y who’s nearly as light as a quark-y; a mutt who can open doors, write, and draw with a  paw; a dog from Nantucket who gets her head stuck in a bucket; a musical Rottie who listens to scarlatti; and many more!

There’s a Dog in the Heavens! is a wonderful addition to any pet-owner’s library.

About the author

Martin Elster is a guy with two dogs. He is also a percussionist with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the Connecticut Opera Association Orchestra, as well as a published composer.

Excerpt

THE DOG STAR

There’s a dog in space! Am I delirious?
No! Its eye is a star they call Sirius;
The brightest by far,
It’s a binary star—
With its unseen companion, mysterious!

The companion is known as “the pup.”
Do you think that I just made that up?
That white dwarf is as small
As a puppy’s toy ball.
If you ask, “Is that true?” I’d say, “Yup!”

Best wishes!

I'm interested in getting a dog for my family.  We have four kids, ages 3, 5, 7, and 9.  We have had two great mutts, but both bit my 5-year-old.  He has a habit of loving dogs a little too much.  Being in their faces, petting their ears.   He just adores dogs.  Even after 4 bites to his face!  Nothing serious thank goodness.  Anyway, I just saw a show on bull terriers, and they seem to be known for their enthusiasm, love, and enjoying company.  We have a big yard and lots of love and attention to give a dog, so I thought this might be a good choice.  Anyone have any opinions about this? Thanks so much for any info you can share with me.
Laura, l
Tallahassee, FL  USA, March 8, 2003

From Dog Stuff Deb : There are some really good books out about kids living with dogs. All dogs have the potential to bite and kids need to learn to respect dogs. Whole Dog Journal had a really good article about kids and dogs a while back. Dog Fancy has addressed kids and dogs many times as well.

I have a question for anyone thoroughly experienced with Golden Retrievers.  We had to give up our 15 month female Golden back in December. I had life changing event, an accident, which forced me to do this.  Here is my question-this was our first Golden-she was hyper and I mean hyper--I was told "Yeah, thats a Golden"--I was having a hard time with her--anyway, I found a home for her----married mid-aged couple-had Goldens all their life-had an older Golden-they came over met us--brought their Golden over so the two could meet- he professed to be thoroughly confident in getting her trained within 8 weeks----6 weeks later they called and said-they were returning her--She was "UNTRAINABLE"-they could no longer stand her---I of course could not accept her back--I found out now that they found a new home for her on a farm---Sorry, here comes the question--Was this typical Golden puppy behavior? BTW all medical issues were ruled out.  thanks

I just gave up my 1.5 year doberman and am heartbroken.  Our family tried desperately since she was tiny to acclimate her in our home and we just could not cope with the neverending puppy stage and the constant antagonizing behavior to my senior miniature pinscher.  Although I am certain Doberman Rescue of New mexico found her a good home I cannot get over my sadness and the constant wondering if I did the right thing.  I miss our walks, our rides in the car and the constant protection I always felt when she was around.  I miss her and wish I could get her back.

I have just lost my loved one Monday Jan 20th to cancer.  Trevor was a beautiful golden retriever and my best friend.  My heart has felt like its been literally ripped out of my chest.  I held him until his last breath where I thought why did I do this.  I know now what it feels to have your heart broken and shattered into a million pieces.

I am in the process of adopting a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix form the ridgeback rescue named Zima and am going to meet her for the first time this weekend.  I am so excited  and wanted to write to tell everyone how rewarding rescue is.  There are so many unwanted potential best friends out there, please give rescue a chance.  I have even signed up to do volunteer driving for the state rescue chapter.  Zima and I hope to have a nice long life together.  Keep up the good work!  Merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again.

Loved finding your site. I am looking (message edited "to adopt")  a miniature or standard poodle.  Preferably a female, age no matter.. We are retired, live on a park, have a fenced yard and doogie-door. Our 14 yr old white standard poodle ,"Pinkie" passed away last august and we can not live without another companion any longer.  Have excellent references including our vet and feed our cats on Hills Science diet and take out insurance policies at Petsmart. We really are animal lovers and I feel we are great to and with them.. Kind of like our babies. We love to show them off when we walk them and go bye-bye. They can sleep on our bed or ANYPLACE they would like.. :)
We live in Orem Utah, own our home and intend to make our new poodle our lifelong companion.. I know there is a loving poodle out there just waiting for us as we are her..Perhaps a greyhound??

I've never been on this website before, but since it's about Dogs, I'll sign. I've got a 2 almost three year old puppy that's a doberman pinscher, and he's black. And, I had a 12 year old almost 13 year old doberman, that was  a girl, and reddish\brown color. Many people say to me, especially my friends, that my dogs will be-tray me someday, because they're dobermans. That's not true. Doberman pinschers are fine dogs, that once saved many soldiers lives back when there were wars going on, and they used dobermans for that. I think that dobermans are wonderful dogs, and that nobody should think that a dog would be-tray you, just because they're dobermans.
~wolfpaw
Ps. My female doberman that was 12; her name was Jessie, and she just passed away last Thursday. She had been there all my life. I used to crawl in her cage when I was a baby, and so was she.:(

i LOVE DOGS. St.Bernards,Greyhounds,German Shepherds, and Siberian Huskys are my favorite! Everyone should get a dog! Grayhound racing is the sad part of doggie sports. Many Grayhounds get destroyed after the race. The good part is that many Grayhounds get rescued, too! After all, no dog deserves death before it's time. GO GREYHOUNDS!

Hi I recently lost a dog her name, "Belle (a golden retriever)." Belle and I were, well you could call it best friends. It was hard to see her go you see she had liver failure (a hard disease to correct). Now I have a new puppy her name is "Holly (also a golden retriever)."  She is now my new best friend I suffered from the lost of Belle but, now that I have Holly whenever I feel sad I just hold her and know that I have her to hold and love.

Hi-I belonged to Ryu. I added to your memories page. I cried as I read through all the pain and loss, laughed at the antics, all-in-all....Thank you. I found your site quite by accident, or by divine intervention (most likely). It's only been a little short of 6 weeks since I lost Ryu. It amazes me how these little creatures become such a part of who we are, that when we lose them, such a huge part of us; dies. Ryu, was preceded by the loss of my daughters' 17 year old Siamese cat, a few months before. They were best buds! And, as the injection let Ryu slip away, I told him, "go find Tanooki! She'll be waiting"! Thank you for allowing me to share my grief, and my love. May God ease your pain, and give you peace. Again, thanks!

Of course dogs can talk. My whippet says "I love you." I about fell off the chair when she was hinting that she wanted some of my dinner, I said "I love you but this is MY salmon." She just sat down looked at me with her sweetest little whippet face and said "I love you." Well what do you think, did she get any of MY salmon? You bet she did!
Love those dogs!

I have really enjoyed reading all the wonderful articles in your website about greyhounds. Ever since I heard about rescue adoptions I have wanted to adopt a greyhound or two. I told her I had found a dog, and we needed to go see it right away. We took our first dog, Lexi, with us to see this possible new companion.
My daughter had never seen a Whippet. When she saw him, she just stared in amazement. She thought he was a Greyhound puppy. At first, he was very nervous. After about 25 minutes with us, she was hooked. She gave me all kinds of reasons why we couldn't have two dogs. I had rebuttles ready. Well, about an hour later, here we were, blanket, crate, and favorite toys, all in the back seat of her car with our new pet. She kept telling me I was crazy, talking her into another dog. Well, let me tell you, of all the breeds of dogs I have come across, I must say this little Whippet is the most unique thus far. When either one of the dogs does something wrong, they tattle on one another. We named him Spencer. The two dogs get along famously. He sleeps in the car, and she just checks out the traffic. I'm in the process now of trying to talk her into another Whippet. If everyone just keeps their fingers and paws crossed, maybe I'll succeed. If someone wants a companion dog, I'd suggest this breed in a New York City minute.

I am the very proud & blessed mom of 3 rescues: 1 retired racing Greyhound & 2 whippets-all of
whom are the exact same color-black/white and not planned to match-we get stares & heads turning
whenever all are together. Taylor my beautiful greyhound "chose" me as her mom when I visited our
local shelter after she was dropped off there sick & visably mistreated, now 100% healthy and loving
her life as a certified therapy dog visiting hospitals, nursing homes & domestic violence shelters. Plus
she has the classic bossy attitude in female greyhounds so she keeps the other 2 in line. Travis my
handsome whippet was adopted thru a rescue group/who is now our forever friends and so enjoys
being the MAN of the house-plus he gets alot of love/attention from his 2 siblings. Winnie my sweet &
precious little whippet was "unplanned" but now a complete member of my family & takes after big sis
Taylor being a certified therapy dog-loves everyone she meets-at home though she has a "teenager"
mouth & back-talks me all the time! (if i did not laugh when she carries on she may stop it but it is just
to funny) As loving & special as these 2 breeds are it is wonderful to view your site, and let the world
know how great they are as pets-more importantly the RESCUE option when looking for a canine
member of the family ! !

As the owner of three cats,  I am also trying to locate a whippet for my husband.  He first saw this breed at my old Afghan breeders house in Md, almost 15 years ago.  I have been fighting this thought of his, because I was under the impression that they were high strung, and very easily excitable.  I don't like yippy, nervous dogs, so didn't really consider a whippet.  I have since heard that this is not true of the breed and now find myself looking for a breeder in the greater Phoenix area.  If you know of any breeders in the area, I'd love to get their phone #'s or email addresses from you.  Thank you for your time.

I just found your website, and I love it. I have a 1 year and 8 month old cocker spaniel, named Sassy Lou. I love her more than anything in the world, besides my husband. My husband wasn't too thrilled by the fact that I insisted that she sleep with us . She was already used it. Well that was 8 months ago, now I caught him with his arm around her in the middle of the night. And when he can't sleep he strokes her hair rather than mine). Once when she was sick he told her he loved her and gave her a kiss on her fore head while tears were falling from his face. This coming from a man whose is 6'2 and 280 pounds. Your website makes it easier for us to shop for our only child, Sassy Lou. Thank you!

Just found your website, am looking forward to checking it all out! We have a 9 yr old greyhound from Recycled Racers out of Mile High Kennel Club in Denver, his name is Lucky. He has had every foot in casts since we've had him, the last was emergency y surgery during the last Super Bowl (since the Broncos were playing you can bet the vet fee was a bit high), he tore four tendons in his hind leg on something, we never figured out quite what. Wonderful recovery though! Good to see your website! We are in process of looking for a companion pet, another doggie to add to the fun.

What a great web site. Last year my husband wanted to get another dog, so I said ok. He came back with the most loving dog. Her name is UMA after Uma Thurman. She is a lab and Whippet mix and she is the best dog that I have ever had. To anyone who wants a great dog, go to your local animal shelter. There are many loving dogs that need homes, and Uma has found one

QTee a fun loving and stuffed animal loving fawn greythound and her twin sissy Two Step would like us to say "hi" for them. You see they're kinda busy right now cuddled up sleeping on their blankets in their kennels with the doors wide open, for as we all know that's what greythounds do best, when they aren't loving their humans that is. Your stories are wonderful. We enjoyed them very much. Thanks for opening up this web site for us greythound pet fanciers. Remember, the love you get is greater t han the love you give!!!

Tears are streaming down my face as I read your tribute to Paulie. It takes me back to the loss of my Chelsa. I still mourn her departure, but I expect to see her waiting to greet me on the other side when the Lord calls me home. In the meantime, I will love as many canine friends as I have time & resources during my short stay on this planet. Lovely web-site.

What a beautiful story about Pauly ! So inspiring. I know all of it is true because I have my own rescued greyhound stories. I have 2 greyhounds sharing my life, home, food, car bed, couch etc.every day. I lost a 10 yr old,Esther, last year and held her in my arms to let her know that I was always there for her in good times and bad, to make her crossing gentle and pain free. It never gets any easier, but I know as you do, that there are so many more great dogs out there that are just waiting for the chance to show how much love their hearts are filled with. Yes, there are angels that bring us together with these truly special animals. Thanks again for the wonderful story of your lovely relation- ship with Pauly. Your whippets are darling !!Cheers.....

Wonderful site. Paulie must have been very special,I cried through the whole memorial. I am currently owned by a 12 1/2 yr old Boxer, Zephyr, and 3 Whippets, Phaedra(6Yr), Lehua(4yr), and Kahuna(9mo). I have been involved in obedience training showing for 13yrs, and I am currently pulling my hair out trying to train the Whippets. The Boxer was a breeze to train and title. Keep up the good work, love your site.

Fayetteville, NC USA - Wednesday, November 25, 1998 at 08:21:31 (PST)

We all read your stories together - we loved them! We're taking them to read to my husband Friday. After our Basset Hound died at 13 1/2 years, we got Phred, 11 months then, because her owner couldn't take her into a monastery. She had spent her pupp yhood mostly in the woods, and was scared of people. Baby Bandit was part of a rescued litter, and was separated from mother and sibling pups very early; consequently, separation anxiety has been part of our vocabulary since day one. Crazy Dazy couldn't a djust to life in NYC, so at 10 months old, she was sent back to her trainer/breeder, who, luckily, is also my trainer, and who is the most wonderful person, besides being a great trainer, because he loves each and every one of his animals, and makes sure they all get good homes (otherwise they stay with him). So Crazy Dazy came to live with us. Some people say we're odd, but I prefer to think of us as "interesting." Thank you for starting our holiday season with a warm and fuzzy feeling!

help? i gave my whippets back to their breeder after my son was born. Their names were (are) Willie and Weber; breeder was Sue Blanchard. Sue, sadly, died of cancer a year or so ago. I have no way of knowing how my dogs are...if they're okay and happy. I still, even though I've not seen them for two years, often worry about them. I'd plabnned on being able to visit them once and a while, but i don't know where they are. I miss Weber, especially, because i had him from birth to the age of six. last i heard a woman in canon city, co, adopted him from Sue. Willie is in Denver somewhere, possibly. Can you help me track them down?

NOTE FROM DOGSTUFF DEB: We have chosen not to list messages from  visitors wanting to buy, sell or breed dogs. Adopting or rescuing dogs is different but, your message may still be edited if you mention price. Most shelters and breed rescue groups charge a small fee for adoption which barely covers medical expenses (spay or neuter etc.).

Having adopted most of our dogs from shelters and rescues groups, letting our guestbook become a classified ad section is worrisome. We have some links to breed rescue groups or you can search for that breed rescue group, for example- beagle rescue.  If you insist on a puppy please contact a responsible breeder. Check out the AKC web site and then contact the breeders and ask questions. Adding a dog to your family is a life time commitment - a decision not to be taken lightly. Not all humans deserve to live with a dog.

Pet stores and puppy mills are NOT responsible breeders!
